What is a Free Radical?
In very simple terms, a free radical is an atom with an "unpaired electron". This atom is called a free radical and is "very reactive" in
that it tries to stablize itself by seeking out another electron from another otherwise stable atom with "paired electrons". This action
results in a "chain reaction" and that is when "excessive free radical activity occurs".
The most important structure of an atom for determining its chemical behaviour is the number of electrons in its outer shell. An atom with
a full outer shell tend not to enter into chemcial reactions (an inert atom). The nature of the atom is to achieve maximum stability. If it
is incomplete, it will do the following:
Atoms often complete their outer shells by sharing electrons with other atoms. In this way, they are bound together to achieve maximum
stability. An example is the Oxygen molecule - O2.
- gaining or losing electrons to either fill or empty its outer shell
- sharing its electrons by bonding together with other atoms in order to complete its outer shell

Malondialdehyde (MDA) is a by-product of free radical activity and this is what the test kit measures.
It is recommended that you test at least once a week, if excessive free radical activity is found, until it is brought under control, or
once a month or at least once every few months to make sure free radicals in the body are not running rampant!
